Responsibilities

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Project Manager, Senior Energy Conservation Engineer

  • Developed a new design according to NYC School Construction Authority’s latest design requirements and SCA Green Building Design Handbook.
  • Coordinated design activities between the structural, electrical, plumbing, geotechnical, and civil engineers.
  • Provided construction support services.

As a sub-consultant, Dewberry provided civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and geotechnical engineering and design services for an Early Childhood Center in Brooklyn, New York. The four-story building was approximately 42,000 square feet and included classrooms, administration offices, storage rooms, cafeteria, kitchen nurses office and examination room. The cellar extended into the rear playground.

The building structure consisted of steel framing with composite concrete floor and roof slabs. The lateral system was concentrically-braced steel frames. The foundation was isolated spread footings with concrete walls designed as grade beams. Since the building was located adjoining the property line, several exterior footings were eccentric. Due to its proximity to the NYC Subway along 4th Avenue, supplementary drawings were submitted for New York City Transit Authority. In addition, steel members were analyzed for vibration as per New York City School Construction Authority requirements in accordance with AISC Steel Design Guide Series #11.

Civil engineering services included design of new curbs and sidewalks around the site and some street repaving. Also included design of the new storm sewer and detention system as well as design of the interior courtyard.
